First at the Gate to the Land Before Time

Day 8- Africa

We helped Reggie maintain his record of always being the first one to enter Ngorongoro Crater which opens at 6 a.m. We accomplished our goal of seeing the big 5 (buffalo, rhino, lion, leopard, elephant) with the sunrise sighting of the black rhino. Then a black maned lion stalking 2 cheetahs crossed the road in front of our van. By 8 a.m. we had seen lions, a bull elephant (easy to tell), rhino, cheetahs, hyenas, wildebeests , gazelles, hippos, zebras, baboons, etc. Then, a picnic breakfast was served near a hippo pool on a table with a red checkered cloth. Onward through the cauldera where we saw flamingos, jackels, beautiful birds and wildebeets and buffaloes by the thousands. Our picnic lunch was shared with a Maasai selling his wares. Reggie said Erv makes him laugh - no accounting for taste. Tomorrow we are on to Manyara and Tangire National Park where we will be staying in a tented camp probably without internet access.

That lion does not look to happy - I don't think he has heard any of Erv or Sandy's jokes yet! Ask Reggie to relay some of them and maybe he'll be a happier camper! From the looks of your dinner plates either you guys are very hungry or the food is very good - nothing was left on anyone's plate! The good news is you are all still smiling even though those were not your instructions - Diana you sort of are following the rules! Jackie other than the color of your skin you fit in perfectly - sooooo cute!
